Changes in Herbicide Traits

Here at Jacobsen our dedication is your success. That means we are with you from planting to harvest, and everything in between. One of the most important items that lands “in between” is herbicide applications to your crop. There are a wide variety of herbicide tolerant traits in the fields around you. This is due to combination of advancements in technology, pressure from herbicide tolerant weeds, and a growing interest in conventional crops. The conversation is more often centered around soybeans. While Roundup Ready soybeans are still the most common, growers are increasing their acres of Liberty Link, Roundup Ready 2 Xtend, and conventional soybeans. There are also new technologies coming to the market in the near future such as Balance GT soybeans and Enlist E3 soybeans. These will again add new herbicides to the list of post application in soybeans.

There has been a steady increase in demand for the ability to spray Liberty herbicide in corn. Unlike soybeans where you can either have Roundup tolerance OR Liberty tolerance, not both, some corn has that ability. Corn can be Liberty only, Roundup only, or both so remember that even though you have the ability to use either herbicide, your neighbor may not. We have also seen a surge in interest in conventional corn in recent years.

Clearly Mark Your Fields

With all of the options growers have for herbicides, it is essential to understand which traits you have in your fields and the fields around you before preforming any herbicide application. We have designed these three signs with you, your neighbors, and your herbicide applicators in mind to help minimize any mix ups.  Our delivery trucks will start delivering soon, and they will be stocked with these signs.  The signs are free to all customers and have two holes for easy mounting to fence posts. We suggest placing the signs on both corn and soybean fields. Please let the drivers know if you would like any combination of the three signs, and how many you would like for your farming operation.
